*Sigh*

I'm here in New York. Nearly every friend of mine in longer standing than a year is hundreds of miles away. This isn't to say anything against the friends I've made since I moved here-- I just want to see some old familiar faces. I think I need to.

A week or two from now I'm going to head down to Maryland, for a week. To meet my nephew Oscar, yes, but also to see some old friends. It will be as close as I've been to a vacation in years; regardless of the fact that I plan to get work done (when everyone else is at work, I might as well do the same).

In the meantime; there's work to be done to secure the future of Yellow Brick Monologues. Work that can only be done in New York; which is fine with me.

More to follow; on any topic that seems appropriate at the time. Ciao, folks.

Best Weekend Ever.

Yellow Brick Monologues was a smash. A dream come true. I loved doing it; and the cast and crew seemed to as well!! We proved, with little advertising no less; that the show can bring in a crowd. There will hopefully be news of developments in the next week or two. More to follow on that as I have an update.

Far more importantly: I'm an uncle!! In Maryland, my brother and his wife gave birth to Oscar Dylan Jones on Saturday night, 8 pounds, 8 ounces. He's perfect. (He was also born during the show, a happy coincidence.) Pictures and comments are all on
www.oscarjones.com, my brother's website for his boy. I can't wait to meet my nephew.

That's all the news that's fit to print. Today I'm taking it easy (I think I've earned a break) and look forward to whatever's coming next. I still have that pesky comic book to put out, and a recording of the show to edit. (Anybody has pointers on that last bit, I'll be happy to listen.)

Ciao for now, folks.

WOO HOO!!!!

There are three words--three simple words-- that warm the heart and put a smile on my face.

*clears throat*

"We broke even." Renting theatre space is by no means cheap; and yesterday we recouped the expense of renting for the night in ticket sales. And we made ten bucks.

We broke even. You would have to have seen it to believe it, but I was acting like quite the lunatic w/ exuberance because of how overjoyed I was. We broke even.

Now if we can just do that three more times...

Opening Night!

Well, tonight's the night. The Yellow Brick Monologues opens in Times Square, Off-Off Broadway. Exactly the sort of thing I moved to New York to do.

A lot of time, a lot of effort and a lot of money have gone into this. The show is as good as I can make it.

Heart-warming Dorothy? Check. Blood-chilling Wicked Witch? Check. A dynamite cast? Well-- besides the wonderful trio (and Toto makes four) are Glinda, The Mayor of Munchkinland, Nikko the Winged Monkey, and of course, The Wizard. Plus a character or two of my own creation. The actors playing them are superb.

The show works. Of that I have no doubt. Whether or not it makes any money remains to be seen. As far as advertising is concerned, I've done everything I could afford to, and that's the truth. Fortune smiled and we're also in this week's Time Out New York, so that's pretty good.

My first New York premiere... Outstanding.
